Since the victory of Louis and Marcel Renault at the Paris-Trouville race in 1899, the history and culture of Renault are linked to the automotive competition.
Renault in motorsport
Renault, more than any other manufacturer, has from the beginning used motorsport to market its products. In 1899, less than a year after its very first car, Renault won its first race – from Paris to Trouville. They then won Paris-Bordeaux, Paris-Ostend, Paris-Berlin and Paris-Vienna. Marcel was killed in the Paris-Madrid race in 1903 and from then on the decision was taken to use only professional drivers. Renault has been active in motorsport to this day.
