The New-look Clio R.S. arrives in Australian showrooms

The new-look Clio R.S. – drawing on Renault Sport’s wealth of knowledge and expertise – has arrived in Renault showrooms across Australia.

“The Renault Sport badge has a long and successful history here in Australia,” said Renault Australia’s Managing Director, Mr Justin Hocevar. “Australia consistently appears in the top five for global Renault Sport sales and we expect this to continue with this new-look model.

“One of the exciting new features is the innovative chequered flag-shaped R.S. VISION lighting system, exclusive to Renault Sport vehicles. This highly-efficient lighting signature enhances night-time visibility, by co-ordinating the fog lights, cornering lights and side lights as well as the long-range headlights.

“Of course, the Clio R.S. benefits from Renault’s five year unlimited kilometre warranty and Capped Price Servicing, providing our customers with outstanding value and peace of mind.” Mr Hocevar said.

The new-look Clio R.S. stays true to its sporty heritage, with the same energetic and efficient drivetrain featuring a 1.6 litre turbo charged petrol engine delivering 147kW and 260Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed EDC dual-clutch automatic transmission, as well as steering column-mounted paddle shifts with Multi-Downshift function (unique to the Light segment).

There’s also the choice of two chassis; Sport and Cup. Each chassis is tuned differently to ensure customers have the option to tailor their driving experience. The versatile and everyday Sport sits on 17 inch alloy wheels, while the Cup, with 18 inch alloy wheels, provides the perfect blend of road and circuit driving characteristics for the more enthusiastic driver.

Of course, the new-look Clio R.S. keeps those unique Renault Sport features including Launch Control, R.S. Drive (enabling a choice of Normal, Sport and Race driving mode) and the R.S. Monitor (available with the factory-fitted Entertainment Pack only).

Clio R.S. also features hydraulic compression bump stops – developed for rallying by Renault Sport – which unlike classic stops, enable the energy return to be absorbed at the end of the shock absorber stroke, usually reserved for competition vehicles. As such, the driver benefits from an improvement to the potential of the front axle, better handling on compromised road surfaces and increased overall comfort. Anti-roll stiffness of the rear axle is doubled compared to a mid-range vehicle, which increases body support and effectiveness of the vehicle.

The Clio R.S. has large diameter brakes (320mm) designed specifically for intensive use, reduced brake pedal travel and stable braking distribution.

At the front, the new-look Clio R.S. is visually broader by virtue of a redesigned front bumper. The new multi-faceted LED lighting signature called R.S. Vision – initially seen on the Clio R.S. 16 concept car – provides a distinctive look and outstanding lighting performance. R.S. VISION has three power intensities as well as three different functionalities: fog/cornering lights, high beam and low beam.

At the rear there’s a spoiler, functional diffuser and twin exhaust. The rear lights carry over the C-shaped lighting signature. The R.S. badge appears with the Renault ‘diamond’ at the front of the vehicle, on the wheels and at the rear.

Other new features over the outgoing Clio R.S. include front fog lights, front parking sensors, automatic engine stop/start, climate control air-conditioning, Tyre Pressure Warning system, LED cabin lights, digital radio as well as a factory-fitted option of Android Auto phone mirroring (see Entertainment Pack below).

There are a number of factory-fitted option packs for the new-look Clio R.S.:

  • Black Pack: F1-inspired black blade on front bumper, black boot lid and black Renault Sport badge, black rear diffuser, black trim inserts on side door protection and black 17 inch alloy wheels (Sport only, Cup has black alloys)
  • Leather Pack: dark leather upholstery with red highlights and R.S. badge on front headrest, heated front seats and height adjustable passenger's seat
  • Entertainment Pack: R-LINK navigation and multimedia system with voice control, Android Auto phone mirroring, R.S. Monitor, BOSE® premium sound system (four speakers, two dashboard tweeters, bass box and amplifier) and R-Sound

The Clio R.S. goes on sale across Australia on August 1, 2017.
