| Four-time Formula One World Champion Alain Prost
is one of the true greats of the sport and his titanic battles with
arch-rival Ayrton Senna are the stuff of legend.
Starting his motorsport career with karting success in the early
1970s, Prost became the French Formula Renault Champion during his
first season in the category in 1976 before becoming European Formula
Renault Champion the following year. Prost made his Formula One
debut in 1980 with McLaren and a year later joined Renault winning
the French Grand Prix at Dijon-Prenois in front of his home fans
in the Renault RE30. Further victories followed in the Dutch and
Italian Grands Prix to bring him fifth place in the drivers’
championship.
Prost improved to fourth place in the standings for the 1982 season
and took three race wins en route. The following season Prost’s
four victories in the Renault RE40 took him to the runner-up spot
in the F1 World Championship. After a year away from the sport in
1992, Prost returned in 1993 with Williams-Renault as team-mate
to Damon Hill and took his fourth world championship with seven
race wins, Silverstone resulting in his landmark 50th Grand Prix
victory.
