| The men who made the machines
great. Renault has worked with many of the best in the business
and here are six drivers for our Heritage Hall of Fame. The name
of Jean-Pierre Jabouille will go down as the man behind the wheel
of the world's first turbo-charged F1 car, the Renault RS01 and
he richly deserves his place in history for enduring its early failures
before being rewarded with Renault's F1 victory.
Rene Arnoux was surely one of the most naturally gifted drivers
to race for Renault whilst Alain Prost was one of the most successful.
By contrast Patrick Tambay joined Renault at the peak of his career
but at a time when Renault's initial F1 effort was in decline and
drawing to close. Nigel Mansell won his sole world championship
using Renault power in 1992, whilst we will never know what Ayrton
Senna could have achieved with a Renault-powered Williams.
