Air filter

Removes impurities from the ambient air and prevents them from entering your Renault’s engine

Accessory belt

The accessory belt drives many critical components to the correct functioning of your Renault, such as the water pump, air conditioning compressor, and alternator (among others), all of which are vital components parts in the correct functioning of your Renault’s engine.


The alternator is driven by the accessory belt and generates power in order to maintain a full charge on the car battery and provide power to the many vehicle subsystems.

Air Conditioning Refrigerant

Air Conditioning Refrigerant is a chemical making up part of the Air Conditioning System that quite simply absorbs heat from the air in order to cool it.

ABS – Anti-lock Braking System

An Anti-lock Braking System, available on all current Renault vehicles, is a safety feature that prevents the wheels from locking up in order to help avoid uncontrolled skidding.  This simply means that the ABS system allows Renault vehicles to maintain traction during sudden braking.

Assisted Parking Brake

An assisted parking brake is a power-assisted hand brake for Renault vehicles, operated in both an automatic and power-assisted mode.  This differs from a more conventional mechanically operated hand brake and is applied via an electronic switch.

Automatic dimming rear view mirror

These are not your traditional rear view mirror.  When a vehicle behind a Renault vehicle has bright lights, the in-built sensor detects this and dims the mirror to reduce the glare experienced by the driver.


Brake discs

One of the most important components in the braking system of a Renault, the brake discs are attached to the wheels to slow and/or stop the vehicle when friction is applied by the brake calipers and pads.  These should be regularly maintained to ensure safe breaking

Brake pads

When a driver steps on the brake pedal, these relatively small parts press against the brake discs to slow and/or stop the car.  Highly important to safe breaking, these should be checked on a regular basis by your local Renault dealership.

Brake caliper

Brake calipers house the brake pad and force the brake pad against the disc rotor when the driver uses the brake pedal in order to slow and/or stop the vehicle.

Brake fluid

Essentially the brake fluid of your Renault transmits pressure from the brake pedal to the brake components at the wheels to slow and/or stop the vehicle.


The short-range wireless communication system utilised by Renault vehicles to facilitate hands-free use of mobile phones in vehicles.  Compatibility will vary depending on your mobile phone.

Bi-Xenon directional headlights

Bi-Xenon directional headlights are a significant step above traditional headlights.  Bi-Xenon refers to the ability of the lights to enable high and low beam options from a single light.  The directional element refers to the ability of these lights to adjust the direction of the beam when the steering wheel is turned, perfect for tight corners at night.

BSW – Blind Spot Warning

Blind Spot Warning is a driving safety feature that signals to drivers when other vehicles are travelling in the blind spot of the vehicle.  For Renault vehicles this is signalled as an illuminated light positioned near the side mirrors.  If the indicator is turned on when a vehicle is in the blind spot the light will flash in order to alert the driver. 


Capped price servicing

Capped Price Servicing means as a Renault customer you’ll enjoy capped maintenance costs for the first three (3) scheduled maintenance services.  This includes the cost of all labour, parts and lubricants required to carry out the scheduled maintenance service. This does not include any additional work or repairs for wear and tear/consumable items identified during inspections.

Customer Information and Maintenance Booklet

Every Renault vehicle comes with the Customer Information and Maintenance Booklet, and explains the Renault Privacy Policy, vehicle warranty as well as the maintenance required to keep the vehicle at its optimum performance level.


Renault COTECHs are the most senior of Renault’s factory trained technicians.  They have been trained to the highest level made available by Renault and are experts in servicing Renault vehicles. 


The crankshaft of your Renault’s engine converts the up-and-down motion of the components within the engine into rotational motion, which in turn is transmitted to the wheels to move the vehicle.


Coolant is required in order to remove excess heat from your Renault’s engine.  Failure to have the coolant regularly checked (and replaced if needed) could mean your engine will overheat. 

CVT – Continuously Variable Transmission

Continuously Variable Transmissions are a type of automatic transmission.  Compared with a more traditional automatic transmission, a CVT controls the power to create a smoother and more economical driving experience.

Cruise control

The cruise control function helps you to maintain your driving speed at a speed that you choose, called the cruising speed.  This cruising speed may be set at any speed 30 km/h.  Cruise control will disengage as soon as you touch the brake pedal.

CO₂ emissions (g/km)

In regards to a Renault vehicle, CO₂ emissions refers to the amount of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, that is emitted from that particular Renault vehicle.  g/km stands for grams per kilometre, in the case of CO₂ emissions it is the measurement for the average amount of CO₂ produced per kilometre any particular vehicle

Combined cycle (L/100km)

The combined cycle refers to the fuel consumption of a vehicle, and is calculated based on the weighting of the urban and extra urban figures, with the distance travelled in each Urban and Extra Urban determining the weightings of each.  Vehicles with this rating were tested in accordance with ADR 81/02 based on combined cycle (city/highway). Actual fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions depend on factors such as traffic conditions, vehicle condition and how you drive.


Engine oil

There are many parts within your Renault’s engine that create friction.  The greater the friction the greater the amount of energy wasted as heat rather than kinetic energy.  Engine oil is the lubricant used in the engine to reduce this friction. 

EBA – Emergency Brake Assist

Emergency Brake Assist is a safety feature that reduces the stopping distance in an emergency situation by compensating for the fact that drivers tend to apply insufficient pressure in emergency situations, or release braking pressure too soon. Emergency brake assist remedies both of these deficiencies.

EBD – Electronic Brake-force Distribution

There are a variety of factors that influence the breaking efficiency of any particular vehicle, such as weather, road conditions, speed etc.  Electronic Brake-force Distribution automatically varies the amount of brake force applied to each of a vehicle's brakes to account for these conditions.

ESC – Electronic Stability Control

Technology that applies individual brakes to reduce the danger of skidding in order to avoid collisions during incidents requiring the driver to swerve.

Electric variable steering

Electric variable steering refers to a driving aid feature, whereby an electric motor is used to detect the position of the steering column and steer the vehicle, rather than more traditional hydraulic power steering systems.  The system accounts better for driving conditions and fuel efficiency.

Extra urban cycle (L/100km)

The Extra urban Cycle is Phase 2 of the fuel consumption test which involves the vehicle accelerating to higher peak speeds and an average speed of 63km/h. The test is for 20 minutes.  L/100km is the measurement for fuel consumption and measures the number of litres used per 100km by the vehicle.  Vehicles with this rating were tested in accordance with ADR 81/02 based on combined cycle (city/highway). Actual fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions depend on factors such as traffic conditions, vehicle condition and how you drive.


Fuel filter

Responsible for filtering the fuel and removing impurities such as dirt, preventing them from damaging your Renault


Gross vehicle weight

The maximum operating weight of a Renault vehicle, and includes the vehicles chassis, body parts, engine, consumables, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and any cargo excluding any towing trailers.


Kerb weight

For Renault vehicles the kerb weight is the overall weight of the vehicle without any additional load, except for 10 litres of fuel.


Limited Slip Differential

A limited slip differential optimises the use of power at the wheels by shifting power away from a free-spinning wheel to the opposite wheel on the axle.


MediaNav Satellite Navigation

A simple and intuitive multimedia system that allows you easy access to a six page menu of features that include radio, media, phone, map, navigation and settings.

Max. towing weight braked

The maximum weight that may be towed by the vehicle when the trailer being towed has its own, independent braking system

Max. towing unbraked

The maximum weight that may be towed by the vehicle when the trailer being towed does not have its own, independent braking system

Max. towball download

The maximum weight that may be exerted on the towball of a Renault vehicle.


Oil filter

Removes impurities from the engine oil and prevents them from entering the engine.


Pollen filter

Removes solid impurities such as dust, pollen and other bacteria from the ambient air and prevents them from entering the cabin of your Renault


The powertrain of a Renault vehicle refers to the vehicles engine, axle, and essentially every component that shifts the power from the vehicles engine to its axle and wheels.

Parking Sensors

A driver assistance feature that makes parking a vehicle easier by signalling when obstacles are within close proximity to the parking sensors. They do not replace the need to check your surroundings prior to parking but do make the experience easier.


The payload refers to the amount of weight that the vehicle can carry, including the driver, passengers and cargo.


Quality Control Certificate

Passionate in providing the highest quality of service possible for your Renault, the Quality Control Certificate is completed by a Renault factory trained technician ensuring the highest level of quality control, and is provided to Renault Service customers upon pick up so that they understand the work that’s been performed, and can identify any upcoming requirements.



R-Link is a tactile, integrated multimedia system that boasts a 7-inch screen which can be safely controlled by voice, touch screen or by steering wheel mounted remote control.

Renault factory trained technicians

Renault factory trained technicians have successfully completed training courses developed by Renault, and are fully qualified to service any Renault vehicle using specialised Renault equipment such as Renault CLIP.

Renault CLIP

Only Renault dealerships are authorised to use this specialist Renault technology to service Renault vehicles.  This Formula 1TM inspired technology is capable of diagnosing and reprogramming Renault vehicles’ on-board computers, ensuring optimum performance and safety.

Renault Anti-Intruder Device (R.A.I.D)

This is a Renault security feature that automatically locks the doors while driving when a speed of 30/km/h is reached.

Reverse parking camera

This is positioned near the rear number plate of the vehicle.  When the transmission is placed in reverse, the live video feed is displayed for the driver to use as a guide when parking the vehicle. 

Renault Keycard

The Renault Keycard is unique to Renault vehicles and replaces the traditional car keys.  The Renault Keycard can be used to lock, unlock and start your Renault.


Scheduled maintenance service

A service listed in your Customer Information and Maintenance Booklet required at regular intervals to maintain the correct function and performance of your Renault.  Renault recommends these be carried out by an authorised Renault dealership.

Service interval

The mileage or age at which a Renault vehicle requires servicing.  A service should be performed when a specific mileage is reaches or the vehicle reaches a particular age, whichever comes first.

Shock absorbers

The shock absorbers are positioned between your Renault’s wheels and chassis, and help to reduce the impact of uneven sections of road to make your driving experience more comfortable.  They are a major component in the suspension system.

Spark plugs

The spark plugs are responsible for starting your Renault, by creating an electric spark and igniting the fuel.  These do need replacing at regular intervals.  If one spark plug becomes deficient, Renault recommend having all changed at once in order to save on future labour costs.

Satellite Navigation

This technology feature that utilises signals from orbiting satellites and map data to locate the vehicle’s location and plot a subsequent route to the destination set by the driver.

Speed limiter

The speed limiter function helps you stay within the driving speed limit that you choose, known as the limit speed.  The limit speed can be exceeded by pressing the accelerator pedal firmly and fully.


Timing belt

The timing belt is a critical component in some of the Renault engines, and is responsible for driving the crankshaft.  Renault timing belts are flexible belts with teeth moulded into the inner surface.  Some Renault engines have a timing chain as opposed to a timing belt. Vehicles with a timing belt will require it to be replaced at regular intervals in order to avoid a breakage and potentially harmful and costly damage to the engine

Tyre pressure (kPa)

Tyre pressure refers to the amount of air with a vehicles tyre.  kPA stands for kilopascal and is the unit of measurement for pressure. Check your tyre pressure at least once a month as it impacts on safety and fuel economy.


Urban cycle (L/100km)

The Urban Cycle is the first phase making up part of the fuel consumption test that represents the amount of fuel used during stop-start traffic conditions (average speed of 19km/h) for 20 minutes.  L/100km is the measurement for fuel consumption and measures the number of litres used per 100km.  Vehicles with this rating were tested in accordance with ADR 81/02 based on combined cycle (city/highway). Actual fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions depend on factors such as traffic conditions, vehicle condition and how you drive.



Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) are used to uniquely identify motor vehicles.  Prior to 1980 there was not an accepted standard for these numbers, so different manufacturers used different formats. Modern day VIN's consist of 17 characters that do not include the letters I, O or Q.

Voice command

Voice command allows you to control certain features of the multimedia system in your Renault by using speech recognition technology, including certain navigation, telephone, and installed application functions.
