MY26 Renault Trafic gains tech upgrades, nine-speed auto for new model year

      2026-03-11

The Renault Trafic van has received a round of technical upgrades for 2026 that deliver improved fuel economy results, lower emissions, 2500kg towing capacity across the range, and adaptive cruise control on Premium and Lifestyle variants.

Due in Australian showrooms from this month, the MY26 Renault Trafic is now available with a nine-speed ‘torque converter’ automatic transmission for smoother gear shifts, replacing the previous six-speed ‘EDC’ twin-clutch automatic.

The fuel consumption rating of new automatic variants has been trimmed to 6.2L/100km according to ADR 82/01 (down from the previous figure of 6.5L/100km).

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine has been upgraded to Euro 6 emissions standards while retaining the previous power and torque outputs (125kW/380Nm).

Towing capacity has been upgraded to 2500kg, compared to 1630kg (long wheelbase) and 1680kg (short wheelbase) for the previous automatic variants.

Adaptive cruise control is now standard on Premium and Lifestyle models.

The MY26 Renault Trafic carries over safety upgrades introduced last year – which earned it a Gold Star Commercial Van rating by ANCAP –  as well as a number of equipment changes that delivered improved levels of comfort and convenience.

Among the standard equipment upgrades to Pro van models was a factory-fitted steel bulkhead with a glazed window – to reduce road noise – and a clever fold-down ‘table’ with an upright document holder that transforms the middle seat into a workstation when stowed flat.

The middle seat workstation also has a hidden compartment to secure a lap-top computer, keeping it out of sight and hard to find when the vehicle is unattended.

The factory-fitted steel bulkhead with a glazed window, and the middle seat workstation – previously an option on Pro van models – are now standard on both Pro and Premium models.

In addition, Premium versions of the MY26 Renault Trafic have a hidden storage compartment below the left passenger seat, which can be used to stow valuables such as a lap top bag or a tool bag – or to accomodate extra long lengths of building materials.

The hidden storage area can be accessed either by lifting the lower cushion of the left passenger seat, or by opening the metal door from the cargo hold.

A metal divider under the front of the left passenger seat stops items sliding into the footwell.

In this configuration – and with the left passenger seat still in use – Premium versions of the MY26 Renault Trafic van can carry lengths of timber, conduit or PVC pipe that are 2.9 metres in length (short wheelbase) or 3.3 metres in length (long wheelbase).

With the metal divider under the seat in the open position – and with the left passenger seat not in use – Premium versions of the MY26 Renault Trafic van can carry lengths of timber, conduit or PVC pipe that are 3.5 metres in length (short wheelbase) or 3.9 metres in length (long wheelbase).

Following the delivery of the 20,000th Renault Trafic since the nameplate was introduced in Australia in 2004, the revamped MY26 range is due in showrooms from February 2026, in plenty of time for the lead-up to the end of the financial year.

“June is historically the biggest month of the year for commercial vehicle sales and, demonstrating our commitment to the Australian market, we have introduced a number of changes to the MY26 Renault Trafic line-up,” said Glen Sealey, the General Manager of Renault Australia.

“With long driving range and long service intervals, the MY26 Renault Trafic is a compelling proposition for businesses that need to keep moving,” said Mr Sealey.

“The MY26 Renault Trafic delivers less down time in an industry when time is money. If a van is your tool of trade, we say the Renault Trafic is your best business partner.”

Ensuring the MY26 Renault Trafic has minimal downtime – so drivers can spend more time on the road – it has longer service intervals (30,000km or 12 months, whichever comes first), a larger fuel tank (80-litre capacity) and a better fuel-efficiency rating on the combined cycle (6.2L/100km, automatic) compared to most rivals.

Other advantages of the MY26 Renault Trafic versus key rivals: reflector-style LED headlights instead of halogen lamps, tyre pressure monitors, storage space under the middle and passenger seats, and an additional wide-view mirror on the passenger’s sun visor on Premium models.

Highlights on the MY26 Renault Trafic range include:

      •    New nine-speed automatic
      •    Euro 6 emissions upgrade
      •    Lower fuel economy rating (6.2L/100km as per ADR 82/01)

The ADAS button* on the dashboard offers direct access to an on/off switch for ADAS features.

The ADAS button also gives drivers the option of “perso” mode, allowing the option of a personal favourites setting to activate or deactivate certain features at the press of a button.

QR Rescue code – a digitised bar code on the windscreen – gives first responders quick access to the vehicle’s structural and technical information in the event of a crash.
